A President driving a Formula 3 car
Even for Georgian circumstances, this activity was somewhat amazing: an ATS Formula 3 Cup single-seater on a motorway. At the wheel: the President of the Georgian Republic, Michail Saakaschwili. It goes without saying that the Head of State didn’t drive the racing car in the day-to-day traffic. With his ride in the cockpit of the ArtTech F 24 Opel-Spiess, Saakaschwili opened the new motorway section between the cities of Tiflis and Gori. The wiry President felt comfortable at the wheel of the 280kph single-seater right from the start and got going at his first effort, thus demonstrating that he has got a lot of sensitivity in his clutch foot. Nonetheless, the demonstration ride on 7th December arguably will remain a one-off as the President wants to keep on focusing on solving the political problems in his country instead of starting a second career as racing driver.
