Win in the finale – in front to a huge crowd

Volkswagen driver Jean Karl Vernay has won the Formula 3 Euro Series season finale in front of a huge crowd. Altogether, a total of 155,000 motor-racing enthusiasts had travelled to Hockenheim to witness the DTM and Formula 3 Euro Series season finales live on site.

To prevail in the Sunday round of the planet’s arguably most competitive Formula 3 series you needed both tactical and driving skills. The race was started on a wet track but when the cars took the chequered flag they did so in dry conditions. The major part of the field started the race on wets, with Jan Karl Vernay also doing so. On lap 13, he pitted for slicks, gained more and more ground afterwards – and on the final lap, he overtook the previous race leader.

“An incredible race,” the Frenchman beamed later. “My car was just perfect and therefore, overtaking proved to be really easy, today.” “All this may sound rather easy,” said Holger Spies who was on site together with many Spiess Motorenbau GmbH employees. “But in these conditions, you have to finish first to finish first. Jean Karl displayed a truly sensitive and mature style of driving, today, and this approach proved to be the key factor for his success.”
